Description
The aim of this course is familiarize students with the basics of English phonetics and potential uses of phonetics in ESL teaching. Topics to be covered include the phonetic alphabet, transcriptions, the phonetic problems of ESL learners (with particular attention to francophone learners), English stress patterns, the phonetics of different speech registers, teaching phonetics to different age groups, evaluating phonetic ability, adapting phonetic material to the classroom helping learners with hearing disabilities or learning difficulties, and using technological resources to study or teach phonetics.
